Locomotive Jump Start Procedures with
a 400 Amp or Better DC Welder

1.) Turn Welder to DC Output ONLY.

2.) Take Positive - (Welder Stinger) & Negative - Ground Lead into Locomotive Cab with Welder turned off.

3.) Clamp Negative Welding Lead to right side of Battery Switch - (Negative)
a.) Ensure the Ground Clamp is secure & WILL NOT TOUCH left side of Battery Siwtch - (Positive)

4.) Clamp Positive- (Stinger Lead) to 400 Amp Start Fuse (Left of Entire Battery Switch)
a.) Ensure Lead is tight to Fuse.

5.) Use a Multi-Meter set on DC Voltage with Range Set at 100 VDC or Higher
a.) Connect Negative Lead to right side of Battery Switch with Negative Welding Lead
b.) Connect Positive Meter Lead to left side of Battery Switch & turn on.

6.)With Welder on DC Output & Welding Output dial on lowest setting start Welder & read Meter
for Output Voltage of Welder with Battery Voltage.

7.) Have 2 way communication between person reading Meter & person Operating Welder.

8.) Have Welder Operator slowly turn up Output of Welder to a minimum of 68 VDC to a maximum
of 72 VDC is obtained on Meter,

9.) Prime Locomotive and start normally.

10.) Once Locomotive is running have Welder Operator turn off Welder

11.) Read Meter with Locomotive running & turn Welder off.

Note: Meter should read 72 VDC to 74 VDC. If desired charging Voltage is obtained with Welder
off & Locomotive remains running, disconnect Welder & operate Locomotive normally.
